Not Feeling Like Working - a Widespread Phenomenon

Almost all of us have days when we can barely drag ourselves out of bed and just can't stand the thought of work. The alarm rings and we can't believe the night is already over. We're tired and don't feel like doing anything, least of all working. The thought of the office, the workplace, the annoying commute there and back in crowded public transit or jammed roads nearly turns our stomachs. How tempting it is to simply roll over and switch off the alarm. Yes, most of us surely know this scene. But it's no use, we have to go to work, there is no alternative. After all, bills and rent have to be paid, the fridge has to be filled somehow and the family fed. Money unfortunately doesn't fall from the sky, we have to have a job.

But unfortunately, far too often work stresses us out and simply isn't any fun. Many people spend their working days on things they have absolutely no personal interest in. The feeling of being sick of work grows from day to day, and dragging yourself out of bed in the morning gets harder and harder - until at some point it's just not possible anymore. And that's not just a figure of speech, because constant dissatisfaction at work can really make you sick. It can cause depression, which in the worst case can even end in burnout, the final total breakdown and strike of body and mind. So something has to be done as soon as you notice you're only struggling through your working days.

How Do I Get Motivated for Work Again?

There are a few good tips for finding new motivation for work and getting rid of that sick-of-work feeling. For one, the working day should be made as pleasant as possible. Start the day with a long, tasty breakfast and take your time for it, even if that means setting your alarm a little earlier. With this nice experience, the working day is easier to handle, and it creates motivation to get out of bed. During working hours, too, no matter how full your desk is, you should keep giving yourself short breaks. Make yourself a nice coffee or tea and think about the end of the workday.Speaking of the end of the workday - plan something nice that brings you joy for after work - you'll see, with good things to look forward to the day flies by.

If you feel under- or overchallenged at work, talk to your boss. Ask for new tasks or for some relief. The vast majority of bosses will be understanding and grant your request. If none of our tips help anymore, there's only one thing left: look for a new job. Think about what would really bring you lasting joy. And then pursue your goals, no matter how hard it gets. After all, you spend most of your day at work, so never waste your joy in life!
