Post-Graduation Work Blues

Help! I'm Supposed to Go to Work!

I love my Ann Arbor and my university. My classmates and I just don't feel like working after graduation. It's simply too soon. Our time together can't and shouldn't be over yet. Don't want to start working after graduation.

We all passed the bar exam with flying colors. I'm talking about a cool crew of about nine guys and girls. We lived together in a big house. A classmate's father made it available to us. Thanks to the professor. It was an amazing time!

Now I'm off to Washington, D.C., to work for a lawyer who argues before the Supreme Court. A great opportunity and a lot of learning await me. Unfortunately, I've already heard the wildest stories. From standing at attention to laying a sheet of paper on the desk precisely to the inch (he apparently called it a "blank sheet"). Maybe he's got colored sheets in his drawer, too. This could be fun. For most of us, one thing is certain: "Don't want to work after graduation ".

3 Months of Grace and Then What?

A different city without friends. We're scattering all across the country. Nobody is coming to D.C. with me. The law firm is just a few minutes' walk from the Supreme Court, right in the heart of downtown. I've already had a look around. D.C. has some nice spots, and chilling at lunchtime on the National Mall isn't bad either.

I still need a place to live, and the rents are on par with Ann Arbor's. No luck this time. We didn't pay much back then, and it was a cool time. Now it's cooking alone and nobody to chat with in the evening. That's not really how I'd pictured it, but I knew the day would come.

Don't want to work after graduation, would rather go backpacking around the world. The thought came up, but I dropped it. The money simply isn't there. I'm a realist about that. Besides, time keeps moving on, and making money is a priority for me. I have plans. I want to invest in real estate and open my own law firm as soon as possible.

So it's a fitting motto: "Don't want to work after graduation," but I have to pull myself together and see this through.

Frederick and Ethan are in Philadelphia. That's doable for us guys. Peter and Jerome ended up in New York. We'll get our act together and hang out.
