Don't Feel Like Studying and How to Find Motivation Easily

Who doesn't know it: you come home from school and still have lots of homework to do. And as if that weren't enough, there's a vocab quiz the next day, and the Pythagorean theorem needs to be learned just as much, so that the next math test doesn't turn into yet another D-minus. But before sitting down to the things that really matter, first comes a snack, some time on the phone and switching the TV on. Because right now the motivation just isn't there, and above all you don't feel like studying. So how do you manage to find an interest in learning?

Finding Motivation and Having Fun

If you don't feel like studying, you can make a schedule and write down exactly when something needs to be done for school. First of all, it's advisable to study a little every day instead of cramming all day two days before the class test or the vocab quiz. Then, after a short break from school, you should get started on your tasks right away. Because once you're sitting in front of the TV or the phone, it's hard to get back up and do something constructive. You should always start with the subjects you enjoy most, because that's when motivation is highest. So if learning new vocabulary comes easier, start with that. Small study groups with classmates can also be worthwhile. Usually you learn more effectively and faster when you have someone like-minded who has to study the same material as you. It also makes sense to take short breaks while studying and get some fresh air.

Having something to snack on and drink within reach helps get a low blood sugar level back up. Little flashcards on which you write the information to be learned can help too. Memorize them and find someone, for example a good friend or your parents, to quiz you. And very important: whenever you've learned something new, reward yourself.

With a few tips and tricks, anyone who doesn't feel like studying can motivate themselves. The key is to simply get started, even when you don't feel like it. Once you've accomplished something and learned something new, the sense of achievement automatically gives you a little more motivation. Maybe even enough motivation to keep studying the next day without thinking about it, so that the feeling of not wanting to study doesn't even come up.
