Back to the Daily Grind

Dream Country, Dream Beach and the Lookalike

When I think about Monday, I still can't believe it. The daily grind is starting up again. I don't want to go to work after a vacation of superlatives. Three weeks of dream vacation on Koh Samui.

Getting up in the morning and having breakfast right on the beach, enjoying the exotic fruit. That's over for now. In two days it all comes to an end. I still can't imagine that everything is starting all over again.

Good old Collins, my department head, who is going to drive me crazy again. No wife at home and constantly racking up overtime so he can keep climbing the career ladder. Just thinking about him, I simply don't want to go back to work after vacation.

He practically followed me on vacation, so that I saw him like a mirage on the horizon, coming toward me on the beach in neon green swim trunks. Next to him a blond young guy in tight black trunks. Who still wears them tight these days?

At that moment I was 100% convinced: that's Collins! My head was spinning. I had no idea he was on vacation at the same time as me. Because I'm no fool, and I made sure we wouldn't go on vacation at the same time.

I couldn't understand it in that moment! He came closer and closer. Grinning so cheekily behind his dark sunglasses. The closer he got, the more puzzled I became. Something was off. Because there was one thing he definitely didn't have hidden under his blazer: that dream body.

It wasn't him. In that moment all I thought was: I don't want to go back to work after vacation!

Office, Office, Office

If I could do what I wanted, I'd bring my resignation letter back from vacation. Written at the beach bar. I can see the text clearly in my mind and on Monday I'd slam everything down on Collins's desk, along with his impossible demands for the next project. For three weeks I didn't think about it, and now it's all present again.

"Don't want to work after vacation" is what I mentally write on the front door. Most of all I'd like to throw my alarm clock off the balcony, pack my things again and head back to the island.

Phew, it's no use. Everyday life starts up again and nothing will change. But one thing is for sure: Collins's vacation is definitely coming!
