There can be many reasons why you no longer feel like going to work. Either you're unhappy with your coworkers or you feel overwhelmed; in some cases even underchallenged. Another common reason for no longer wanting to work is depression. Depression can have many different causes and reasons. However, it usually has a negative effect on work and on the workplace. How exactly it affects work, and why depression can make you not want to work anymore, is covered in the following text.

The Causes of Work-Related Depression

As mentioned above, the causes can be very varied. Some depression you carry for years without really noticing it. And at some point you no longer want to go to work, because the depression has already spread so far. It doesn't just affect the workplace, though, but private life as well. That gives you a double burden, at work and at home. This ultimately leads to your health getting even worse, and then you really don't want to go to work anymore. Many people then stop going to work altogether and stay home all day. Which can eventually lead to being fired by the employer

Depression Caused by Work - Tips

One of the most important tips is to talk about it with a doctor or someone you trust. Doctors usually know a lot about this and will try to help. A psychologist is also highly recommended. Occupational psychologists in particular know the field of "not wanting to work because of depression" well. They know various forms of therapy for getting depression back under control and living a normal life again. You don't have to take medication for every depression. There are also milder forms of depression that can be managed very well without medication. That's why a psychologist is a good idea, since they know the treatment methods where medication isn't necessarily required. Depression can be divided into three different types: mild depression, moderate depression and severe depression. Depending on the type of depression, different treatment options are used. It doesn't work equally well for everyone. Some people feel better quickly, and for others it takes a few months or even years longer. Still, you should always try to think positively and not let yourself get you down; that way you can also start to feel more like working again.
