The numbers speak for themselves. More and more employees are calling in sick, and not just because of a trivial cold. Work stress makes you sick, and in the long run, too. Doctors' offices are full of it, because more and more people are suffering psychological consequences and problems. These mostly announce themselves with burnout and are also recognized too late. The employee is now trapped within themselves and almost stands there as a failure. Anyone who's sick is out.

The vicious circle begins
Who stays home over a little thing? First it's the migraine, the nausea, the lack of drive, and then it becomes depression. Many employees are put under pressure at work. The orders have to be processed, and the little employee comes last. And he's replaceable once he gets older and can't keep up anymore. Work stress makes you sick and demonstrably harms the work atmosphere. After all, more sick notes also mean the work gets spread onto other shoulders. The vicious circle begins and runs its course for the whole company. At some point everyone is affected. Plenty of companies should work on their time management and employee leadership, and then this couldn't happen.
Just fight back
Nobody is helplessly at the mercy of this. Your doctor is a person you can trust and will take care of you. Don't see a sick note as a disgrace; you're only escaping the vicious circle. Work stress makes you sick, so fight back.
Many illnesses become chronic. Is that your goal? Surely not, so take your health into your own hands. Your employer is only trampling on it. What do you do in a case like that? Quite simple: you get signed off sick for an indefinite period. In Germany, after 6 weeks you receive sick pay (Krankengeld) from your health insurance. Then you have time to recover fully and maybe even try new paths.
Employees are not puppets
Even if you end up unemployed, why not retrain? Maybe your previous job wasn't the right one for you anyway. In any case, accept help if you're suffering from burnout syndrome, because it can't be swept under the rug. Work stress that makes you sick should be a thing of the past. So pay attention to yourself, eat healthy, exercise, and strengthen your immune system. Then you'll get back on your feet healthy and naturally, too. Because telling stress to ease up has never helped any of us. Think of your health; you only have the one.
